Personal Suggestions

The normal ones for any walking activity anywhere on Earth:

Plan your route, taking into account the length, duration and difficulty, the abilities of the members of your group and the weather forecast.

Avoid or forget about long routes or ones that climb steeply uphill, during the hottest time of day or in adverse weather conditions or without appropriate equipment or training.

Inform relatives or the authorities of your route, the area your are in, the people in your party and the estimated time or day or your return.

Do not walk at night, in conditions of poor visibility, on the right hand side of the road, or on your own.

Do not drink from streams or springs, except those that are marked as drinking water.

Do not eat seeds or fruits of the native plants that could be toxic, despite their appetising appearance.

Avoid losses, accidents and environmental harm by not taking short cuts or leaving the path.

Carry a mobile phone with you. 112 is the emergency services number, with full 24-hour cover.

In the case of breathing or cardio-vascular disorders, or conditions that are sensitive to certain substances; mites, pollen or other allergies, we recommend that you carry your prescribed medication with you, and carry your sports licence and medical or accident insurance.
