A Visitor Welcome Centre in Telde
The municipality of Telde, in the east of Gran Canaria, is situated in a fertile plain known as “La Vega Mayor”, a place one falls in love with at first sight. If we step inside this area, we will find an even greater treasure: bananas, oranges, cucumbers, flowers, ornamental plants, tomatoes, peppers and sugar cane are grown there.
Telde also offers a wide and varied range of tourism resources: beaches, mountains, old historic quarters, green areas, archaeological sites, house museums, local crafts, local cuisine, open-air shopping areas, restaurants and so much more. Those who wish to explore this municipality will find entertainment and leisure possibilities to suit all ages and tastes. Fun is guaranteed!
We recommend that you start your tour through Telde by visiting the Tourist Information Centre, located inside the emblematic Town Hall building known as Casas Consistoriales, where the local council is housed, in the old colonial quarter of San Juan. Apart from being the perfect starting point, this Tourist Information Centre warmly welcomes visitors in accordance with today’s needs and you will feel it as soon as you set foot in it. With the opening of a new tourism resource for the island of Gran Canaria, Telde has made a clear commitment to digitisation and to strengthening the experience of two important historical and architectural sites, San Francisco and San Juan.
Just a few metres from the new Welcome Centre you will find the Mother Church of San Juan Bautista, a superb example of Sevillian-Portuguese Gothic architecture. The many treasures that this sacred place holds inside definitely make it a must-stop. We also recommend that you wander around the streets of the neighbourhood of San Juan, its tree-lined promenade, gardens, noble houses, house museums, churches and squares. Take a stroll at your own pace and feel the magic of this captivating place. The best advice we can give you is to give your senses free rein.
Once you have finished your tour through the streets of San Juan, you will reach the neighbourhood of San Francisco in the blink of an eye. This area is full of relics of the past. Like an architectural umbilical cord, its aqueduct wisely connects this historic quarter with that of the neighbourhood of San Juan, two jewels in time. In addition, San Francisco is one of those places that leaves an indelible mark in the heart of every visitor who walks its narrow, cobbled streets while gazing spellbound at its whitewashed houses, with tiled gabled roofs and green doors and windows. Here one gets the feeling that time stands still.
Finally, to round off our tour through the city of Telde, there is nothing better than visiting the busy and commercial district of San Gregorio, where you can watch life go by happily while sitting on one of the outdoor tables of the many cafés and restaurants that line the main avenue.
