From the catwalks to the Transgrancanaria
Blogger, model, traveller and sportsman Fran Guzmán is the latest to sign up for the Transgrancanaria 2018.
He is just back from the United States, to be precise from New York Fashion Week. He has hardly taken a breather before embarking on an event on the Gran Vía in Madrid, where he will be taking part in a public event organized by a famous sports shoe company. Have we just mentioned sport? Well, on 24th February 2018 he will be running in the Transgrancanaria Advanced, a trail race over 64 kilometres which starts in Artenara, at the summit of Gran Canaria, and winds up right at the Maspalomas Dunes, one of his favourite places on Earth.
That’s right. We could say lots of things about Fran Guzmán, but not that he gets bored. The creator of digital content, model, traveller, sportsman and many other things, is the author of a blog called bowtiblue.com, which clearly highlights the multi-faceted personality of this Gran Canarian, who this year is to run his first ‘transgrancanario’ race. “I have really been looking forward to the Transgrancanaria”, says Guzmán, referring to a competition considered one of the world’s top long distance races, and which also forms part of the prestigious international Ultra Trail World Tour.
“Since 2014 I have been collaborating with the Spartan Race, who organize both obstacle and trail races. I train and run every day, and these races are the motivation I need to keep my goals in sight”, continues Guzmán. Right now the goal he has marked in bright red on his sporting calendar is the Transgrancanaria, the leading ultratrail race in Spain, and the top winter event in Europe, which every year features more and more top athletes from around the world. The competition offers a variety of 6 different race formats to cater to the differing abilities of all runners, and will be taking place between 21st and 25th February.
Fran Guzmán is also a whizzkid on social media, where he shares the experiences of his trips around the world, his love of gastronomy, fashion, personal care and even decoration. Over 13,000 people follow him on Facebook, more than 6,500 do the same on Twitter, while a growing legion of 60,200 fans follow his every step on Instagram.
Right now we are looking at Fran Guzmán in a photo he has uploaded on Instagram, “the fashion social media site that generates the most impact”, as he himself says. He poses in a short-sleeved shirt, even though the snap was taken on 31st December. Behind him we can make out crystal clear, blue water with people having a bathe, a barrier reef, and lots of people strolling around and lying on the beach sunbathing. He is smiling behind his auburn-coloured sunglasses while he takes a selfie. The result: 1,160 ‘likes’ and an avalanche of comments. “I always get offers to travel to some pretty cool places around this time, although I have the tradition of staying put in Las Canteras for New Year”, he underlines, in a clear reference to the affection he has for Gran Canaria.
Fran Guzmán, who has modelled at many national and international fashion events including Gran Canaria Moda Cálida, will be crossing the ceiling of the island all the way down to the golden beaches to the south, putting his strength to the test alongside the rest of the participants, against the backdrop of the many different natural faces of the island. What must he be thinking and feeling right now? What does he see as the toughest part, and the best part? And what about the perfect photo to sum it all up? Check him out on social media and find out.
