WQS World Surfing Championship

The world’s top surfers escape all together to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

El Confital. This small enclave is a magnet for really good surfers. A place that prefers to remain hidden in the heart of Gran Canaria’s capital city. A secluded spot, a coastal area stretching from the islet’s small peninsula to the city’s northern exit. Beyond the long Las Canteras sand tongue, across the promenade around the beach. There, you will find the El Confital stretch, with some of the best waves in Europe.

What makes this tiny place so special? Well, it must have something to attract the world’s top surfers. Once again, the WQS World Men’s Surfing Championship will be held there during the first days of October.

An event for pros, which consolidates Las Canteras beach as one of the best spots in the Canary Islands to practise this sport. This beach gathers the whole spectrum, from newbies with early surfing fever symptoms to those with a long and incurable addiction.

From those who begin catching waves on the beach’s most protected area, close to the Auditorium, surrounded by schools where to take lessons and learn to ride the waves, to those searching for a black belt in surfing, those who dare cross the El Confital stretch.

But go easy, now. You do not have to take up surfing right away. No need to decide just now that surfing is the source of adrenaline you are searching for. You may simply come to see truly fine surfers riding good waves.

We will be waiting for you this October in the capital of Gran Canaria!
