Shopping time

From designer clothes boutiques to small handicraft stores; from the latest trends in fashion to sporting goods, perfumes, or sailing gear…

Gran Canaria places before vacationing couples a varied list of establishments where to pick a souvenir, buy a gift, or simply indulge oneself.

The island offers countless stores both on its northern and southern areas. The latter, around the tourist spots, offers a wide range of shops close to the beaches and hotel complexes. Yet another alternative is given by Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the island’s capital city, and the largest in the Canary Islands, the ideal place for shopping- with its many shops, malls and large stores.

Northern Area (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria):

Some of the best shops on the island are found on the historical Triana Street and its surrounding area, in the heart of the capital city. From exclusive fashion names to big commercial brands; from fashionable items to jewellery, handicrafts from the Canary Islands, sporting goods, or gifts… Triana is the connecting point with the city’s old district of Vegueta, a historical area with pedestrian streets that give visitors the possibility of combining an afternoon shopping, with a visit to one of its museums.

Triana has also a variety of bars and sidewalk eating areas around Frogs Square, Cairasco Square, or the Monopol Boulevard, places where to enjoy a drink or a Spanish tapa after an easy stroll.

The Mesa y López commercial district, at the other end of town, provides the option of shopping in a myriad of places, from large stores to different boutiques. In Mesa y López, visitors may rest in one of the bustling cafés on Plaza de España (also known as Plaza de la Victoria), watch people walk by in the afternoon, or enjoy the lively atmosphere built as the day ends and the creatures of the night fill the sidewalk tables. Only two minutes away from Plaza de la Victoria, Las Canteras Shopping Promenade runs parallel to the long sand spit of the largest beach in town.

Southern Area:

The many different commercial stores in the south of Gran Canaria adapt well to tourist needs both as to timetable and price. Bars, stores, and coffee shops in the tourist areas remain open long hours practically throughout the year.

The shopping malls distributed along Maspalomas, Playa del Inglés, San Agustín, Puerto Rico, and Meloneras offer a myriad of stores for all wallet sizes.

For the perfect blend of sunset and designer stores, visit the old Maspalomas Lighthouse area, a unique spot to start a long stroll or enjoy the sidewalk coffee shops by the sea in the Meloneras district. You may also want to reach Puerto de Mogán, a small sailor’s enclave in the south of the island, a fine spot to watch the sunset and enjoy a quiet drink.
