The state-of-the-art Golden Shark modern submarine descends daily from Gran Canaria’s Puerto de Mogán, to the depths of Atlantis Submarine Park.
The Golden Shark, a modern recreational submarine powered by electric motors and featuring large portholes to better enjoy the view under the sea, submerges daily in the crystalline waters of Puerto de Mogán, in the south of Gran Canaria. Welcome to the world of Atlantis Submarine Park, a simulation of the submerged remains of an ancient civilization where marine life now bustles. This fantasy scenario has arisen thanks to the eco-sustainable project promoted by Atlántida Submarine.
Travellers need only concern themselves with what awaits. The Golden Shark descends into calm waters and there’s no discernible change of pressure as you submerge. In fact, this dive is suitable for everyone, with no risks for pregnant women or people with hearing or heart problems etc.
There’s a wow factor of glimpsing what appear to be ancient columns of temples and collapsed palaces. Look closer. Is that a shipwreck? Can you make out a whale’s skeleton? And a warrior’s helmet?
But all is not what it seems. As this spectacular artificial reef is populated with structures fashioned from fibreglass moulds, filled with neutral PH concrete. Although the native marine fauna and flora blend in seamlessly.
To fully comprehend the scale of the project, it’s important to know its history and philosophy. The Atlantis Submarine Park is Gran Canaria’s first artificial reef which has been conceived as a project of regeneration of the ocean bed in a protected area. 350 submerged structures are equally distributed across an area of 3,000 square metres.
This decorative set is arranged on both sides of a 150-metre-long corridor. Recreating the ruins of an ancient civilization. Perhaps the mythical Atlantis. By the way, the submarine is ready for its next descent. There’s space on board. Atlantis exists and is ripe for rediscovery. Are you coming with us?
